Debaters win finalist award at National Championship
King 15th Best Speaker out of 624

Kirkland, April 13, 2004

Congratulations to Jon King and Casey Digennaro for breaking into final rounds at the National Parliamentary Debate Association championship tournament at California State University, Northridge last weekend, April 7 -- 10.

While failing to advance after the first elimination round, the men come home with a finalist award.

The victory means that Northwest College has maintained our record of breaking at every national debate tournament that we have attended since 1996.

80 schools brought 312 teams from across the nation to the four day finale of the season. Truman State University of Missouri won first place on Saturday evening.

In addition to wins and losses, debaters are rated for speaking ability.

Team captain Jon King placed 15 out of 624 debaters, an unusually high rank in a very challenging field.

It was the final King, who has lead the program for the last two years.

Last week, Sara Boyd was elected team captain for 2004 -- 2005.
