2009 - 2010 Eagle Debate Year in Review

Eagle debate finished the year off with a Farewell Luau at the Gillespie home on April 13, immediately after three teams returned from the National Championships in Denver.

We enjoyed food and laughed for about three hours straight, remembering funny stories "about the time when..."

We said goodbye to Team Captain Morgan Chinn, who lead for two years, Tiffany Dikeman who will focus on her pastoral ministry degree next year, as well as graduating seniors Brandon Schulz and Evan Whipple.

The year began with a World Debate Workshop and Scrimmage and Show debate. NU Debaters host Workshop and Scrimmage

We sent three teams to Hawaii Pacific University in October for a respite in paradise. Debaters Seventh in Hawaii

Four student traveled to the UK to debate at Oxford University and two stayed the following weekend in November to also debate at Cambridge University.

Morgan and Brandon won at Lower Columbia College: Final Four in Longview

In January we hosted our first large tournament on campus and had a show debate. NU Hosts Tournament -- see video  of final rounds

One highlight of the year was hosting the Chinese National Debate Team in March. Chinese National Debate Team vs NU

We also won two awards at the Tournament of the Great West at Mt Hood College. Winning at Pi Kappa Delta in Mt Hood

The next weekend, new students won in Portland: Novices Win at PSU

We are proud that our captain Morgan Chinn was selected by a vote of the students and faculty to be the Baccalaureate Speaker on April 30.

Next year: Morgan Chinn will assume the role of Assistant Coach.
