July 4th: Celebrating religious freedom

Posted on by autumn.witt@northwestu.edu

Last week we celebrated July 4th, Independence Day, in the USA. At my church, our pastor encouraged us to think of the freedoms that we are thankful for, and one has stuck with me: The freedom to worship publicly.

This is a freedom that is often taken for granted, but when I read about the risks that Chinese Christians take,  I am reminded that we are so lucky.

I think our students are doubly lucky, because here at NU, our Christian faith is nurtured alongside academic development. How blessed we are to be able to study the Bible and grow as Christian critical thinkers, WHILE also studying business, environmental science, music, or ministry.
