The best way to describe what I do in the ASA is that I provide support for the rest of the ASA staff, and also for students. You can easily find me sitting at the first desk you see when you enter our office. (The candy jar on my desk draws students into our office.) I provide testing support, along with random office support which includes updating our bulletin boards, sending notification emails, answering questions, replenishing our forms, etc. I also provide music tutoring for students. I have worked in the ASA center since January 3, 2007.

Why did you choose your majors and then a master’s in Social Entrepreneurship?

For my undergraduate, I love working with young people (middle school to college age) and initially wanted to become a youth pastor. On the other hand, I grew up being entrenched in music, so when I came to NU, I declared a minor in music. By the end of my sophomore year, I had completed most of my music minor requirements, and I was desperately wanting more music theory classes (I’m a geek that way.) Thus, I decided on making music a second major. Somewhere during my undergraduate career, I realized that I still would want to work with youth, but not from a formal pastoral position. I graduated in the Summer 2010 and decided on pursuing a Master’s in Social Entrepreneurship (translated: non-profit or social business management). I ventured on to this field because I plan to, in the future, start a non-profit organization for arts exploration, education, and mentorship for young people. If you want to know more about this dream project, feel free to ask me!

About working at NU: I love getting to meet and getting to know students! NU has a beautiful campus. Also, the professors are GREAT!

Favorite fun thing to do: I love to travel – go on adventures to places I’ve never been before. Less expensive option: be in musical theater productions, watch movies, cook, read, shop, and sing!

Favorite place to eat in Seattle: Señor Moose Café in Ballard. Whole-in-the-wall-honest-to-goodness-great-Mexican-food! I always get the Carnitas…

Favorite foods: Any kind of pasta, Mexican food (good salsa and chimichangas), ebi tempura, and my mom’s martabak telor.

Favorite TV shows: House, Friends, CSI: NY, NCIS, NCIS: LA, Lie to Me, Cold Case, Warehouse 13

Favorite music: Jazz (Diane Schuur, Cole Porter, a bit of Ella Fitzgerald, big band), hilarious musical theater numbers, Punch Brothers, Georges Bizet, weird 20th century music, and classical stuff (including opera). I like regular top 40 stuff too.

Favorite book(s): Harry Potter, Much Ado about Nothing, PS I Love You, The Constant Princess

Favorite quote:

“Every guy should accept and understand that we, ladies, need more than one pair of great shoes… “ –someone wise.

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, latte in the other, your body thoroughly used up, totally work out and screaming, ‘Woo hoo! What a ride!’”
