Steps to Hiring a Student

Post Job Opening on Eagle Website

  1. The hiring supervisor must submit a Job Posting Request form and current Job Description (electronic Word doc.) to HR. This form must be completed electronically with all fields populated and dynamic approval stamps at the bottom.
  2. Job Posting Request must be completed, including all approval stamps, prior to submitting to HR.
  3. HR will post your job opening on the Eagle web site. As student applications are received in HR, we will forward them to you electronically for your consideration.

 

Once you’ve made a hiring decision and it is the 1st time the student is working on campus:

  1. If they haven’t already, the student turns in an application to HR.
  2. The hiring supervisor must submit a digitally stamped (by the supervisor, VP/Dean and CFO) Student Hiring Authorization form to HR for each academic year and summer term. This form must be completed electronically with all fields populated and digital dynamic approval stamps at the bottom.
  3. The hiring supervisor is responsible to let any students that they interviewed or contacted know that you’ve made a hiring decision.
  4. HR conducts a background check (usually takes 24 hours, but may take longer in some cases).
  5. Once the background check is complete, HR will contact the student to schedule their new hire orientation. The appointment will take approximately 30 minutes.
  6. If the student provides the proper identification, banking information and has completed the compliance and FERPA training, HR will send a “cleared to work” email to the hiring supervisor.

***The student is not permitted to work, nor will they be paid until you have received this email***

Once you’ve made a hiring decision and the student has worked on campus, but is new to your department: 

  1. If they haven’t already, the student turns in an application to HR.
  2. The hiring supervisor must submit a stamped (by the supervisor, VP/Dean and CFO) Student Hiring Authorization form to HR for each academic year and summer term. This form must be completed electronically with all fields populated and digital dynamic stamps at the bottom.
  3. HR will send a “cleared to work” email to the hiring supervisor.

If you’re re-hiring a student to the same position: 

  1. If they haven’t already, the student turns in an application to HR.
  2. The hiring supervisor must submit a stamped (by the supervisor, VP/Dean and CFO) Student Hiring Authorization form to HR for each academic year and summer term. This form must be completed electronically with all fields populated and digital dynamic stamps at the bottom.
  3. HR will send a “cleared to work” email to the hiring supervisor.
