Lynette Sorenson
Since 2009 I have been part of the Information Services Department as the Education Technology Coordinator. My focus is providing technology training and support to the Northwest University community. I enjoy working with faculty as well as adjunct faculty and staff.
I have seen a lot of changes at Northwest University since 1993 when I was hired as the Reference Librarian. In 1994 my title changed to the User Services Librarian. I loved working in the library and the opportunity to get to know students and to help library users find the resources they were looking for. I also loved working in an environment where the focus was on learning. At first it was learning to use a card catalog! and then it was learning how to “gopher”. The library actually hosted the first faculty email address and of course it was not well used! How great it is to work in a place where we are encouraged to keep learning and to create an environment where others can learn.
In 2003 I decided to return to school to get a Masters in Educational Technology at Pepperdine University. I was challenged as an online student, but learned so much from my professors, my classmates and from the assignments and projects that I worked on. My Action Research project focused on how to provide training for EndNote and one of the side effects was introducing RefWorks, a web-based bibliographic product to Northwest University.
