Instructional Technology Center – ITC

WELCOME

From Seattle 2010

The Instructional Technology Center (ITC) is more than an office.  It is the provision of training and support for instructional technology that takes place when and where it is needed.

As you prepare for a new semester don't hesitate to stop by my office in Rice 25 or to call or email me to set up an appointment.  Resources are also available on this website, in the Discovery Instructional Resource course which is on your course list, and on the ITC Blog.

Looking forward to working with you this year.

Instructional Technology Coordinator

Student Lists in Self-Service vs Discovery
What you find in Self-Service is the official/master student list.  Discovery will update (both adds and drops) as each student logs into the system.

DISCOVERY

Discovery Manual and Handouts

The Discovery Manual and a number of handouts are available in the Discovery Instructional Resources course that you will find on your course list (let me know if the course is not on your list).  Handouts include:  Adding a Quiz Activity, Creating a Forum and Tracking Student Activity, Setting up the Gradebook and Adding Assignments and Activities, and Turnitin.  Print copies of these resources are also available in the ITC.

New Resource Option

As you add content to your Fall classes you will see a new Resource option called Add A Syllabus.  Use this option when adding your syllabus.

WINDOWS 7 & OFFICE 2010

Classroom and lab computers have been upgraded to Windows 7 & Office 2010.  If you would like your office computer upgraded to Windows 7 add your name to the list using the Upgrade to Windows 7 button below.  The software is available in the NU Bookstore for your personal computer.

NU CLASSROOMS

We are working on preparing the classrooms for Fall classes.    The Control Panels will be the same throughout campus making it easy for you to switch from one mode to another (e.g. desktop to the DVD player).  Remember to turn off Projector before leaving your classroom.

Evening Help Desk Support

Nick Dunne, a 2009 NU Graduate,  joined the Information Services team this summer as the Computer/Media Technician.  He is available from 5 - 9pm Monday - Friday to assist with technology issues in the classroom.

PRINTING SERVICES

Print/Copy Jobs

If you are printing or copying more than 50 pages at a time you should send the job to Printing Services.  This will not only save you time, but will free up public printers and copiers for smaller jobs.  Use the Printing Order Request Form on the Printing Services web site to submit your request.  Your copies will be delivered to your office within 24 hours.

Do you need to print a colored poster or other large item?  Printing Services can now print items up to 44 inches wide.

Long Distance & Printing Codes

If you need your long distance code or printing codes go to My Printing on the Printing Services page on Eagle. On this page you will find your personal and department long distance codes and copy codes as well as your charge history for printing.

PANOPTO

Panopto was upgraded this summer to Panopto Focus 3.0.  New features include a browser-based editor for PCs and Macs, a redesigned Web management interface, and an updated Panopto recorder.  Panopto Focus 3.0 Recorder has been installed on all classroom computers.

You can now edit your Panopto Recordings.  Log into http://panopto.northwestu.edu (choose moodle from the dropdown menu), find the desired recording and click on the Edit button.  See Video for more information.

2009/2010 Statistics

NU Students viewed over 866 hours of lectures from 50 classes during the Spring 2010 semester.  This does not count the time that students listened to recordings after downloading the podcast.  Students appreciate the ability to view the material covered in class as they review the class or prepare for an exam.  More details.

ITC Recording Studio

Rice 29 is now the Instructional Technology Center Recording Studio.  The primary users of this facility will be Faculty who are recording lectures for online or blended courses.  The room can be reserved by emailing Judy Olson-Briggs
