Start-up Development Intern

The Role of the Start-up Development Intern

The Start-up Development Intern works to improve an organization’s market position. This person may help to establish incorporation, define strategic goals, build key relationships, advance business and develop market knowledge. Start-up Development Interns partner with local entrepreneurs / business owners in a support position within the company. It’s their job to work with the entrepreneur and the innovation ministry of GodWork360, Cedar Park Christian Church and its delegates to maximize business development.

Job Description

The primary role of the Start-up Development Intern is to support the varied needs required to formally start-up a new business venture. This may involve filing business applications, writing documents, contributing to product development, client networking and advertising. He/she may contribute to or coordinate business development activities. While the exact responsibilities will vary from Start-up to Start-up, the duties of the Start-up Development Intern may include the following:

New Business Development

- , Prospect for potential new clients to increase business.
- , Cold call as appropriate to ensure a robust pipeline of opportunities.
- , Identify potential clients, and the decision makers within the client organization.
- , Research and build relationships with new clients.
- , Set up meetings between client decision makers and company’s practice leaders/Principals.
- , Plan approaches and pitches. * Work with team to develop proposals that speaks to the client’s
needs, concerns, and objectives.
-, Participate in pricing the solution/service.
-, Handle objections by clarifying, emphasizing agreements and working through differences to a
positive conclusion.

Client Retention

- , Present new products and services and enhance existing relationships.
- , Work with technical staff and other internal colleagues to meet customer needs.
- , Arrange and participate in internal and external client debriefs.

Business Development Planning

-, Help to populate and file incorporation, pro forma, etc. documents to start-up a business.
-, Attend industry functions and provide feedback information on market and creative trends.
-, Present to and consult with mid and senior level management on business trends with a view to
developing new services, products, and distribution channels.
-, Identify opportunities that may lead to strategic opportunity.
-, Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identify and develop the company’s unique
selling propositions and differentiators.

Management and Research

-, Submit weekly progress reports and ensure data is accurate.
-, Ensure that data is accurately entered and managed within the company’s records system.
-, Track and record activity to accountably track progress towards goals.
-, Work with staff to accomplish goals within a timely manner.
-, Ensure all team members represent the company in the best light.
-, Present business development training and mentoring.
-, Research and develop a thorough understanding of the company’s people and capabilities.
-, Understand the company’s goal and purpose to enhance the company’s performance.


- Fundamental business education and interest is required. Persons with experience are preferred.

Other Skills and Qualifications

- Self-driven, passionate, professional, business-minded and constantly looking for ways to learn and make a difference. Must be a strong verbal and written communicator. Microsoft office skills.
