Director of Family Ministries
The Director of Family Ministries will oversee the Spiritual Formation ministry for the children and youth at Creekside Covenant Church. This role has two primary tasks: 1) to develop and implement a comprehensive strategic Spiritual Formation ministry plan that spans from our nursery to high school discipleship and outreach ministries; and 2) to recruit, equip, coach, and support the volunteers and leaders of Creekside’s Family Ministries who will ultimately execute the ministry plan. Weekly time and effort will be primarily dedicated to these two areas. It is not expected that this person would be the leader of each specific area of our Family Ministries, but that this person would lead and coach the leaders of our Family Ministries.
1) Family Ministry Leadership
In collaboration with the Family Ministry Team, develop and implement a comprehensive Spiritual Formation ministry plan that encompasses the nursery through high school
In collaboration with the Lead Pastor, cast vision and encourage our whole congregation to work together in accomplishing our mission priority to “grow the next generation”
Develop intentional efforts for both discipleship and outreach within our Family Ministries
Provide oversight and direction for each key Family Ministry area (currently: nursery & preschool; elementary; middle school; high school)
Provide proactive communication, direction, and collaboration with the Creekside Office Manager regarding needed administrative support (e.g. copying, calendaring, supplies, database systems, etc.)
2) Leader & Volunteer Development
Recruit, lead, and develop the Family Ministry Team
Recruit, equip, and coach point leaders for each of our key Family Ministry areas
Provide training for Family Ministry Volunteers
Work to provide a safe environment for our children, youth and adult volunteers through proper training and educating according to our child abuse prevention policy
Provide proactive communication to all Family Ministry leaders and volunteers
Ensure volunteers are effectively scheduled to promote a positive volunteer experience
3) Student & Parent Care & Communications
Provide regular and proactive communication to the students and families involved in Creekside Family Ministries
Develop an intentional and consistent approach for student care and mentoring by the Family Ministry leaders and volunteers
Serve as the Creekside point person for crisis care and concerns that may arise in the lives of our students, utilizing (when appropriate) partner resources such as parents, Lead Pastor, school resources, and Family Ministry leaders/volunteers, etc.
4) Other General Duties
Attend regular staff meetings (including occasional longer offsite retreat days)
Collaborate with the Church Staff to assist with the coordination of church-wide events
Other duties, as assigned (within the allotted hours for this position)

Preferred (but not required): formal education and/or training in children’s and/or youth ministry
This position will require approximately 25 hours per week (flexible hours, but would include time on Sundays). Expense lines will be available for such areas as mileage reimbursement, hospitality/meals, and professional development. This position is supervised by the Lead Pastor.

Who Creekside currently is:
Our Sunday morning attendance has been recently averaging around a total of 140, which includes about 25-30 children each week. We currently offer children’s ministry programming for nursery, preschool, and elementary during our worship service time and a middle school group twice a month during the latter part of the worship service. We have a team of about 35 adult volunteers who help to make this all possible.
Our middle school and high school youth groups happen on Sunday evenings during the school year. We have a core team of 5 adult volunteers that lead our youth ministry.
We have both an English and a Spanish worship service that happen simultaneously on Sunday mornings and so our children/youth come from a variety of cultural and language backgrounds.
Where Creekside and our Family Ministries are heading:
As Creekside comes close to its 20th year of ministry, we find ourselves in an intentional season of prayerful assessment and strategic ministry planning. This new position is a product of the season we are in because it is a new approach to this significant part of our overall Spiritual Formation ministry. Previously our children’s and youth ministries have been less connected and led by different staff or volunteers. We are excited about this new chapter of establishing and growing a comprehensive plan and approach for caring and ministering to all of our children and youth.
A “Family Ministry Team” is mentioned often in the above job description. To be clear, that team is not technically formed yet. Our new Director of Family Ministries will be the one to create and shape the make-up of that team, involving key leaders from both our children’s and youth ministries.
We recognize the unique reality and demand of a position like this starting at 25 hours/week and are committed to helping our Director of Family Ministries flourish in these responsibilities and job structure. It is our vision that as the needs of our Family Ministries grow, so will our staffing for this ministry. As that growth happens, we could envision the possibility of either this position increasing in hours and/or adding other staff support in order to accomplish our vision and mission.
