Summer Academy Teacher, Part-Time/Temporary

Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission is currently looking for a Summer Academy Teacher to join the Women and Children's Ministries team in Seattle, WA.

Seattle's Union Gospel Mission is a private faith-based organization that helps the community to reach out with compassion to those who have lost hope. And as a community, we empower one another to build, lead and give back.

The Summer Academy Teacher is responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation of an effective Kindergarten-5th grade academic program as a vital part of the summer day camp academy.

Our Women and Children's Ministries team is looking for its newest member and we think that could be you!

Shift Schedule

This position will run from July 2nd - August 24th, 2018. The regular schedule will be Tuesday - Friday from 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM and 4 hours on Mondays.

Essential Job Duties

Challenge and reinforce K-5th grade students in basic math, reading, and writing skills.
Strive to help students achieve standard educational goals appropriate to their grade level.
Assess student academic level and plan appropriate lessons accordingly.
Build and maintain relationships with youth for the purpose of academic enrichment, evangelism and discipleship.
Assist the Youth Program Coordinator with student discipline.
Maintain appropriate records for attendance.
Ability to guide and direct volunteers serving as assistants in the teaching and learning process.
Attend and participate in all Mission, Division, and Department meetings and trainings, as required.
Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The successful candidate will have an active church/prayer life and demonstrate a strong desire to serve the Mission by ministering to those whom it serves.
Must agree with Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission Statement of Faith, Mission and Vision Statements and have a personal ethos and work ethic that reflects the Mission’s Core Values.
Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required.

Ability to successfully pass pre-employment drug and criminal background screenings.
Classroom teaching and lesson planning experience required. K-5th grade teaching experience is encouraged.
Ability to lead, train and encourage youth in their Christian faith required.
Consistent positive, friendly, cooperative demeanor required.
Willingness to work with inner-city youth required.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Qualifications
Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend, stoop or reach.
Regularly lift and/or carry up to 20 pounds.
Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Youth Ministry, Child Development, or related field. Washington State Teacher Certification strongly preferred.

Experience

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in developing and teaching curriculum.

Classroom/teaching experience required; K-5th grade teaching experience preferred.

Experience in inner city youth programs and ministry preferred.

Requirements:
