The Summoning of Everyman

Fall 2011: The Summoning of Everyman

Directed by Chrystal Helmcke

Dates: November 3-5 and 11-12, 2011

Location: Millard Hall Theatre

Everyman is a 15th Century morality play–a creative story about God’s summoning of a man to his death and how this man must account for the ways he has spent his life. It was written as an artistic educational tool of the pre-Reformation church, an instruction for Christians in the way of righteous living and a cautionary tale against selfish choices. The issues raised in the play call to mind our struggle to understand the relationship between faith, works and salvation.
