Minority Scholarships

ASNU (Associated Students of Northwest University) has partnered with Student Financial Services to provide an outside scholarship list for current and prospective students and families. This list is intended to assist students who belong to various minority groups.

Legrant Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship

Deadline: February 26, 2021

Amount: $2,500

General Info: LAGRANT Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship recipients will receive a trip to NYC where they will participate in career building activities including a welcome dinner with a keynote speaker, two daylong career & professional development workshops and a scholarship and donor recognition reception.

Eligibility: Must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA. Must be a member of one of the following ethnic groups: African American/Black, Asian American/Pacific Islander, Hispanic/Latino or Native American/Alaska Native. Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or DACA recipient. Must be a full-time student at a four-year, accredited institution within the U.S., carrying a total of 12 units or more per semester/quarter. MUST major in a field of study that has an emphasis on advertising, marketing or public relations or be minoring in communications with a desire to pursue careers in public relations, marketing or advertising. Must have at least one year to complete his/her degree from the time the scholarships are awarded in May 2021. Recipients MUST be available to participate in the scholarship activities from May 16-19, 2021. If chosen, the applicant MUST attend TLF’s scholarship activities to receive the scholarship. The applicant must make a one-year commitment to maintain contact with TLF to receive professional guidance and academic support.

RTDNF Carole Simpson Scholarship

Deadline: March 1, 2021

Amount: $2,000

General Info: The Carole Simpson Scholarship was established to encourage and help minority students to overcome hurdles along their career path in electronic journalism.

Eligibility: Students who will be sophomores, juniors or seniors at the time the scholarship is awarded, pursuing careers in radio, television, or digital journalism Winners must be officially enrolled, full-time sophomores or above in good standing when scholarships are awarded in September.

RTDNF Ed Bradley Scholarship

Deadline: March 1, 2021

Amount: $10,000

Eligibility: Must be a sophomore, junior or senior at the time the scholarship is awarded, pursuing a career in radio, television, or digital journalism Winners must be officially enrolled, full-time sophomores or above in good standing when scholarships are awarded in September 2021. Students may apply for only one RTDNF scholarship, and past RTDNF scholarship winners are not eligible.

Shui Khen and Allen Chin Scholarship

Deadline: March 12, 2021

Amount: $1,000

Eligibility: Grade level: Incoming freshman or current, full-time undergraduate at a two-year community college or four-year college/university. Student or parent currently/formerly employed at an Asian-owned or Asian cuisine restaurant. Community advocacy and social justice work on behalf of Asian American, immigrant, and/or other progressive causes, Minimum GPA: 3.0 Financial need. No citizenship status requirement.

AGWM Eddie and Ruth Washington Scholarship

Deadline: April 1, 2021

Amount: $5,000

General Info: This scholarship is available for up to $5,000 to select Black students who intend or demonstrate direction toward serving as career missionaries with AGWM.

Eligibility: Must be a Christian person of Black descent, a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, have a declared (or intended) major conducive to future service as a career missionary, and a minimum 2.5 GPA.

ABA Diversity Scholarship

Deadline: April 1, 2021

Amount: $5,000

General Info: The Diversity Scholarship focuses on broadening the number of traditionally underrepresented groups in the management and operation ranks of the transportation, travel, and tourism industry.

Eligibility: Must be a freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student at an accredited University. Must have a declared major or course of study relevant to the travel and tourism industry. Travel and tourism encompass a varying range of professions from accounting to hospitality management and everything in between.  You must demonstrate your diversity (this includes varying cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, nationality, minorities, age, race, or ethnicity) to evaluators.

Korean Ancestry Grant

Deadline: April 1, 2021

Amount: Maximum up to $10,000

General Info: Set up by Dr. William Orr Dingwall with the purpose of supporting students in their pursuit of undergraduate degrees in a variety of fields.

Eligibility: Must be of Asian ancestry, with at least one Asian grandparent. The minimum GPA to apply is 3.50. Must be an undergraduate student

Actuarial Diversity Scholarship

Deadline: June 15, 2021

Amount: $1,000 -$4,000

General Info: The Actuarial Diversity Scholarship promotes diversity within the profession through an annual scholarship program for minority college students with an intent on a career in the actuarial profession.

Eligibility: Must have at least one birth parent who is a member of one of the following minority groups: Black/African American, Latinx, Native North American, Pacific Islander. Enrolling as or enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at a U.S. accredited educational institution. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale), emphasis on math or actuarial courses. Entering college freshmen must have a minimum ACT math score of 28 or SAT math score of 620.

Against the Grain Groundbreaker Leadership Scholarship

Deadline: June 30, 2021

Amount: $1,500

General Info: The Against The Grain Groundbreaker Leadership Scholarship provides financial assistance and promotion of Asian American college seniors and graduate students who have exhibited exemplary leadership, vision, and passion that is blazing a trail for others to follow and changing lives in the Asian American community.

Eligibility: Must be at least 25% Asian and/or legal permanent resident of the U.S. Must be a citizen, national or legal permanent resident of the U.S. Must be either a high school senior or college student currently enrolled full-time at an accredited U.S. vocational, junior college, or four-year college/university and must be a full-time, associate/bachelor/master’s degree seeking student. Open to students of all majors. Must have demonstrated visionary leadership abilities through innovative means. Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Korean American Scholarship Fund (KASF) Scholarship

Deadline: June 30, 2021

Amount: $500 -$5,000

Eligibility: Must be a Korean student or foreign students from Korea. Must be attending or planning to attend college in one of the following western states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, or Washington. If extra funds are available, other students (non Koreans) may qualify for scholarships. Specifically, descendants of American veterans served during the Korean War may qualify for scholarships. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, enroll full time, and have unmet financial need.

Car Review Scholarship for Hispanic and Latin Students

General Info: This is a scholarship opportunity for young women or gender non-conforming individuals of color who are actively working to change the world.

Eligibility: Must be young women or gender non-conforming individuals of color, currently enrolled or who will begin college/university. This scholarship is intended for undergraduate students. Applicants must attend college in the United States.
