Dr. Caicai Wu










Dr. Caicai Wu is the Laboratory Supervisor in the Science Department at Northwest. She manages the science labs and supports the laboratory experiments, including General Chemistry, Survey of Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, General Biology, Principles of Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Integrated Science and other related subjects. She supervises the laboratory safety, orders and prepares the laboratory materials and keeps all the labs organized. Whenever needed, she is actively involved in planning and organization of lab experiments by making suggestions to instructors to benefit the student’s learning experience. She works with IT department on the development of a chemical safety and inventory database to bring the science labs to the next level of efficiency. Dr. Wu also teaches the laboratory courses for Survey of Chemistry.

Prior to joining NU in 2011, Dr. Wu worked for Pacific Biometrics, Inc. (PBI), a Seattle based clinical reference laboratory. Dr. Wu performed a number of duties with increasing responsibility over 11 years at PBI. She was the Associate / Technical Director for six years. In that capacity, she led the development of most of the company’s new assays and technologies. She was responsible for quality control, proficiency testing, calibration monitoring, results troubleshooting, standard operating procedure preparation and revision, and working with staff at all levels of the company to facilitate generation of quality tests results for PBI clients. In addition, Dr. Wu worked a Senior Scientist for Micronics, Inc., on the development of miniaturized devices for clinical assays for a couple of year before PBI.

Dr. Wu received her PhD in Analytical Chemistry in 1993 from the University of Washington. She completed two post-doctoral fellowships from the Departments of Lab Medicine and Bioengineering, University of Washington. Dr. Wu is a diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry and a fellow in the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry. She also holds the certificate of qualification as a Laboratory Director in Clinical Chemistry, Diagnostic Immunology and Endocrinology issued by the New York State Department of Health. She is a certified medical interpreter in Chinese-Mandarin in State of Washington. She has published over 20 articles / abstracts and holds 7 patents.

In her spare time, Dr. Wu enjoys singing, cooking and gardening.
