Over the past 14 years, Dr. Doty has taught over 2,340 business management students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. His students’ oral and written communication work, when objectively graded by an outside party, has consistently exceeded Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) standards. Dr. Doty’s peer reviewed management research and publications have been accepted by Academy of Management annual conferences and consortiums (a significant achievement because only about 25% of submitted work is accepted). For example, a 2015 publication which was presented to the Academy, The Elephant in the Classroom Anxiety Reduction in Management Oral Presentations, demonstrated how instructional methods and classroom atmosphere may reduce public speaking anxiety in undergraduate and international graduate populations by an average of 31%. Dr. Doty is a contributor and reviewer for the Academy of Management Education and Development division; Management Spirituality and Religion division; the Journal of Mentoring & Tutoring: Partnership in Learning. He has also reviewed several Management Communication textbooks including, for example, Management Communication (O’Rourke, 2014), Writing and Speaking at Work (Bailey, 2014), Managerial Communication (Bell & Smith, 2012), Dr. Doty has two sons and enjoys rowing competitively with his wife of 27 years, Patty, for the Lake Union Crew rowing club, skiing, and distance bicycling. Dr. Doty has been teaching at Northwest University since 1998. He holds an M.B.A. (cum laude) from the Orlafea School of Business, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska (summa cum laude). Recent research projects include fundraising in research universities, discipleship/mentoring, factors affecting growth in nonprofits, and leadership factors in nonprofits. Dr. Doty has 3 decades of management experience in public, private and social entrepreneurship organizations including: Public- Newhall Land and Farming ($1 billion real estate holding, development and agricultural company). Private- Dinwiddie Construction Company ($350 million, Builders of the Transamerica Pyramid and Bank of America towers in San Francisco). Nonprofit- Strategic Planning Officer for Mercy Ships (international mercy and relief organization). Dr. Doty also works to start up entrepreneurial ventures.
