Dr. Julie Lerwick
Dr. Julie Lerwick holds a Ph.D. in Counseling from Oregon State University and is a Nationally Certified (NCC) Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Registered Play Therapist (RPT). Her doctoral research, conducted at Oregon Health & Science University Department of Neurological Surgery, was in pre-operative anxiety reduction using a play therapy intervention. Dr. Lerwick has enjoyed academic and clinical work, both nationally and internationally, and is deeply invested in preparing and mentoring new counselors to fulfill their life’s calling.
Aligning with her research interest, Dr. Lerwick is a published author in medical journals on the subject of psychosocial aspects of pediatric healthcare. Believing strongly in social justice to children, she volunteers her time providing services to children undergoing medical treatment, creates pediatric psychosocial interventions for healthcare systems, trains healthcare professionals and First Responders to address the psychosocial needs of children, and serves as President of the Oregon Association for Play Therapy.
“You can have anything you want if you want it badly enough. You can be anything you want to be, do anything you set out to accomplish if you hold to that desire with singleness of purpose.”
― Abraham Lincoln
Dr. Lerwick enjoys distance running, CrossFit, and the blustery fall season when Starbucks reintroduces Pumpkin Chai Lattes. She is also known to listen to Christmas music year round!
She currently finds joy through the process of training her chocolate Goldendoodle, Micah, to be an Animal Assisted Therapy dog. Once he graduates, their goal is to visit children in the hospital delivering a dose of doodle cuddles and kisses!
