Background

Prior to joining Northwest University, I served 15 years as Professor and Program Director of Educational Leadership at Iowa State and North Carolina State Universities, and as Professor at Seattle Pacific University. Prior to that, I served 18 years as a HS teacher, K-12 principal, and district administrator. I also served 10 years as Director of the national University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) Center for Research on the Superintendency and District Governance. My research focus has been in the area of School Board governance, leading to the development of a new model organizational model called Balanced Governance. The interest in Balanced Governance has allowed me the privilege of speaking and consulting on school governance issues in 12 countries and across the United States.

Interests

My wife of 38 years and I enjoy leading worship at our church, gardening, hiking, and taking excursions on our Harley trike.
