Frequently Asked Questions
When will my lesson be added to my course schedule?
Lessons are typically added to your schedule within 24-48 hours; however, it can take until the second week of classes before they are added.
When do lessons start?
Lessons start the second week of the semester, except for lessons that occur on Mondays, which begin the third week (due to the Monday holiday).
Are private lessons required?
That depends. If private lessons are part of your degree or if you are a music scholarship recipient (all instrumental scholarship students and vocal scholarship students starting Fall 2022 and after), then private lessons are required. If private lessons are not part of your degree, they can count toward your elective credits. If you have questions about your degree requirements, please contact your advisor or the advising office at advising@northwestu.edu. For questions regarding music scholarship requirements, please contact the music department at music@northwestu.edu.
Can I take private lessons for zero credits?
Private lessons are available for zero credits under special circumstances. To take private lessons for zero credits, you must meet the following criteria for the current semester:
- Already enrolled in 18+ credits (not including private lessons).
- Enrolled in an ensemble.
