Private lessons are available to students of all majors and skill levels. Our expert instructors will personalize their one-on-one lessons as they help you take your musicianship to the next level.

Instructions

  1. Choose your instrument from one of the categories.
  2. Choose your desired instructor.
  3. Follow the link to that instructor’s registration page.
  4. If you have registered for private lessons before, log in with your NU email address and the password you created for lesson registration.
  5. If you have not registered for private lessons before, create a new login using your NU email and confirm your email address.
  6. Some instructors will have a calendar of their available times. If they do, follow the directions on the top to select a lesson time.
  7. For all instructors, fill out the contract. If you did not select a time on a calendar with your instructor, make sure to contact them at the number provided.
  8. Once you submit your form, you are ready to go! Your credit and fee will be added to your schedule in about two weeks, but it will not show up immediately.
  9. Your lessons will start on your lesson day the week of Tuesday, September 6 – Monday, September 13.

Frequently Asked Questions

I signed up for the wrong time and instructor. What should I do?

Please contact the music department at music@northwestu.edu or 425-889-5255 and we will help you move your registration.

When will my lesson be added to my course schedule?

Lessons are typically added to your schedule within 24-48 hours, however it can take until the second week of classes before they are added.

When do lessons start?

Lessons start the second week of the semester, except for lessons that occur on Mondays, which begin the third week (due to the Monday holiday).

Are private lessons required?

That depends. If private lessons are part of your degree or if you are an instrumental music scholarship recipient, then private lessons are required. If private lessons are not part of your degree, they can count toward your elective credits. If you have questions about your degree requirements, please contact your advisor or the advising office at advising@northwestu.edu. For questions regarding music scholarship requirements, please contact the music department at music@northwestu.edu.

Can I take private lessons for zero credit?

Private lessons are available for zero credit under special circumstances. To take private lessons for zero credit, you must meet the following criteria for the current semester:

  • Already enrolled in 18+ credits (not including private lessons)
  • Enrolled in an ensemble
