About

The Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics is a flexible, yet demanding major designed for students interested in careers involving the application of mathematics in a particular field. The toolkit of applicable mathematical methods will enable them to advance further in their own field, whether in industry or in academia. The program provides an excellent preparation for advanced degrees in math, physical sciences, as well as graduate study in business, education, and technology.  The program also prepares students for postbaccalaureate positions in business, technology, teaching, and finance.  A total of 50 credits are required for the major including 38 credits in mathematics, 12 credits of Concentrations in the applied fields such as Computer Science, Data Science, Data Science, Finance and Education.

Why study Applied Mathematics?

Applied mathematics is a branch of mathematics that focuses on the application of mathematical concepts and methods to real-world problems. It encompasses a wide range of areas, including operations research, mathematical physics, mathematical finance, and numerical analysis.

An applied mathematics major can lead to a variety of career opportunities in fields such as finance, engineering, physics, computer science, and data analysis. Graduates with this major may work in fields like financial modeling, risk management, engineering design, and simulation, or data analysis. They may also work in research and development in companies, government agencies or academia.

The skills developed through an applied mathematics major, such as problem-solving, logical thinking, and the ability to work with abstract concepts, are highly valued by employers. These skills are essential in today’s data-driven economy, where many companies rely on mathematical modeling and analysis to make informed decisions. Additionally, an applied mathematics major can provide a strong foundation for further education in graduate programs in fields such as engineering, computer science, and finance.

In summary, an applied mathematics major provides students with the skills and knowledge to use mathematical methods to solve real-world problems and can lead to a wide range of career opportunities in various industries.
