Change of Major

← Back to Advising Information

Changing your major is a common part of the academic journey. We’re here to help you make an informed choice!

Changing your major is an official decision to change your academic program. Degree requirements, graduation timelines, and financial aid all may change. Additionally, some programs have specific steps for admission.

How to Change Your Major (Step-By-Step)

Please follow the change of major process:

  1. Review the degree requirements for the major you are considering
  2. Schedule a meeting with the advisor for the major you are considering
  3. If needed, connect with the new department and/or with Student Financial Services
  4. Complete the Change of Major form
  5. Once you complete the above steps, confirm that your major has been updated in Self-Service within 1-2 business days

Things to Consider When Changing Your Major

  • Graduation timeline. Changing your major could lengthen your time to graduate; be sure to determine how many credits you have remaining on the new major.
  • GPA Requirements. Some majors require different GPA standards for some/all of their classes.
  • Admission to Major. Some majors, specifically Nursing also have a specific admission process that can be competitive.
  • Financial Aid implications. Your major could impact what financial aid packages you are eligible for, especially if you are changing to or from a Ministry major. Your advisor may ask you to meet with your SFS Advisor before officially changing your major.
