Mission

To provide a safe and secure environment where students can learn and teachers can teach. The Security Department is a service oriented organization that promotes security, safety, education and personal responsibility. The goal is to promote community involvement in the protection of the facilities and the people who study, teach and serve as part of the Northwest University community.

Services

The primary functions of Campus Security are to provide for the safety and security of Northwest University employees, students, visitors, and property through education, observation and reporting.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Property patrols.
  • Daily lock up and unlock of campus facilities.
  • Provide assistance to students, faculty and visitors whenever possible,
  • Provide assistance for special events.
  • Provide safe on campus traffic flow and parking through enforcement of the Motor Vehicle Policy and education.
  • Notify respective department heads of problems dealing with grounds and facilities of Northwest University.
  • Log and report any improper activity involving Northwest University personnel, students, or visitors.
  • Assume and maintain immediate authority at or near the scene of an emergency situation on Northwest University property.

Northwest University encourages victims of crimes to report the incident to Campus Security regardless of how insignificant the matter may appear. To report a crime, a victim or witness should contact (425) 889-5500, extensions 222 or 5500. In addition, we recommend that all criminal activity be reported to local law enforcement. Security Officers will assist victims and witnesses in reporting criminal activity to local law enforcement agencies for investigation and follow up.

Northwest University places a high priority on your safety. The department is staffed by trained security personnel 7 days a week and 24 hours a day. Security Officers are provided by Puget Sound Security and are licensed by the State of Washington as private security guards. Officers are trained in campus security protocol and emergency response matters. Criminal investigations occurring on campus are conducted by local law enforcement.

Authority & Jurisdiction

Northwest University Campus Security Officers have been granted administrative authority to investigate certain acts occurring on campus. If a student commits a minor offense involving University rules and regulations, the Security Director may refer the individual to the office of the Director for Community Life. Fines for parking and moving violations are administered by Campus Security. All criminal offenses such as homicide, sexual assault, robbery, aggravated assault, auto theft, burglary, hate crimes etc. are reported to the local law enforcement agency for investigation and resolution. The prosecution of criminal offenses is conducted by the local Prosecutor’s office.

The Department of Campus Security’s jurisdiction extends only to the properties of Northwest University. Any criminal offense that occurs off property belonging to Northwest University is to be reported to local law enforcement.
