Hangdong is a campus with a clear vision of who they are to the world because of who they are in Jesus Christ. They are uniquely Christian and academically challenging with a retention rate of ninety-eight percent. They have a high standard for students and will respect their honesty to the point of leaving students alone in an exam room. For many students at Hangdong, they are going out into the world, not only knowing English and their focus of study but are also gathering attention for their drive and morality. Due to the trust on campus, many students consider professors to be like family.
Am I eligible:
You must be a full-time student at NU and be either a sophomore or higher in credit amount. You must have at least a 2.5 GPA. The school will also not accept those with a criminal record or who have been suspended or expelled from NU. International students can take up to 22 credits a semester.
Visas:
You are required to have a D-2 Visa to study in Korea. To apply for this Visa from the Korean consulate or embassy near you , you must submit:
- An Application form found at www.hikorea.go.kr
- Passport
- Certificate of admission
- Bank Statement or a scholarship certificate proving you maintain a minimum balance or have a scholarship certificate
- Two photos
- Visa Processing Fee
- Any other documents required by Korean Consulate
Language:
Handong has a reputation for having one of the best college curriculums available in English in all of Korea. At Hangdong, you will have access to Korean tutoring free of charge. About 30% of the major courses are taught in English. It’s a great way to learn about Korean language, culture, and make friends. The Office of International Community Advancement (OICA) hosts Korean Cultural experiences as well such as: Korean Traditional paper folkcraft, traditional pottery making, traditional drawing, traditional cooking, as well as visit many historical sites and museums. The Hangdong Student government has also organized the IBS (International Buddy System) where you will be paired with a Korean student to participate in a variety of events.
Campus Life:
Handong is located in the hills of Pohang Korea, the 200 acre campus looks over the East Sea. It is four hours south of Seoul. On campus there are ten academic buildings, ninety classrooms equipped with the latest educational technology. There is even an outdoor performing area for large-scale performances.
Housing:
As an international student, you are required to live on campus. You can live in the normal dormitories or in what is called the I-house, the international dormitory, where you can meet people from over 30 countries. Although the dormitories are small, many who live there say they have learned so much, especially in cases where three roommates are all from different cultures. Many decide to stay in the dorms because of the experience.
