DAISY Nursing Student Award

BSON Daisy Nomination Form

The Buntain School of Nursing (BSON) is proud to be a participant with the DAISY Foundation.  The DAISY Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died from complications of an immune disease.  DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.  The Barnes family valued the care nurses provided to their son and family through his illness.  Establishing the foundation and the DAISY Award was their way to say thank you for the care and compassion that nurses exhibit every day.  The Barnes family are from the local Seattle area but their organization has grown to become a highly valued international foundation.  Most hospitals in our area participate with the DAISY Foundation by awarding the DAISY Award to deserving nurses throughout the year who have been nominated by peers, patients and patient families.

The DAISY Foundation now offers a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Students.  The BSON will honor one senior nursing student with this honor at our annual pinning ceremony.  This award is an honor and distinction for the student to include on their resume, recognition on the DAISY Foundation website, access to funds to support cross cultural mission work and discounts for nursing certifications and other advanced educational opportunities.

The BSON criteria for this award is as follows:

  • Demonstrates commitment to compassionate care of patients and families.
  • Cultivates a connection with patients, families and peers by building trust and respect.
  • Advocates strongly for patients and families.
  • Portrays personal values, experiences and goals that align with the Mark and Huldah Buntain School of Nursing Program.

Mission Statement:  The Mark and Huldah Buntain School of Nursing at Northwest University prepares graduates to answer their call to serve God throughout the world and lead others by using their professional expertise as nurses.

Each nominee will receive a certificate reflecting they were nominated for this prestigious award and the Dean will name the honoree and present the award during the pinning ceremony.
