Core Curriculum

← Back to Advising Information

NU’s Core Curriculum is based on the three historic Christian values of truth, beauty, and goodness, and provides our students with education in both the liberal and practical arts.

2026-2027 Core Curriculum

How many credits is the Core Curriculum? Students will take 48 credits across 11 disciplines in the Core.

Can I meet the Core requirements with transfer credits? Direct equivalencies can be met through transfer coursework (check TES for your previous school). Some requirements can also be met or waived depending on the type of degree or number of credits you are transferring; refer to the Transfer Tier System for more information.

Why does NU have a Core Curriculum? All universities have some set of general education requirements. At NU, we want students to become more than just practitioners of their discipline; we want to develop holistic critical thinking skills and to gain a deep appreciation for God’s creation through studying the great variety of avenues for knowledge and beauty He has given us. The Core invites us into the fullness of our humanity as God’s beloved creatures.
