Withdraw from a Course

To withdraw from a course, complete the following steps:
- Consult with your advisor to determine whether withdrawal is the best option for your degree progress, academic standing, and well-being
- Once you have decided to withdraw from a course, complete the Registration Change Request form and email it to registrars-office@northwestu.edu.
- Email your instructor to inform them of your withdrawal from the course.
Withdraw Guidelines:
- Withdrawing from a course means the course remains on your transcript with a grade of “W”. This grade does not impact your GPA, but it does affect your course completion percentage. Both of these calculations are important for Satisfactory Academic Progress.
- You can only withdraw from a course between weeks 2-12 of the semester. Until week 2, you may drop the course (remove it from your transcript as though you never enrolled). After week 12, you may not withdraw from a course; whatever grade you receive in the course will stay on your transcript.
- Sometimes, withdrawing from a single course is a good option to help balance your workload. Be sure to verify, with your advisor, that you have a plan to complete those credits in another semester before you graduate.
- Withdrawing can also protect your GPA, especially if you are concerned you will fail a course. Always consult with an advisor before submitting the Registration Change Request.
- Student can withdraw from online courses up until the last day of the course (Monday of week 8). After that date, whatever grade you receive in the course will stay on your transcript
